Bowling style

edit

Both Cricket Australia and CricInfo say he's fast-medium. One of the sources that have been added today (and reverted for now in order to seek consensus) says that he is capable of bowling over 150 kph - not that he does so regularly. And that's a source from six years ago. I would consider much of what's been added as puffery and POV. To be honest, I think it's much more important that we talk about his back injury in 2013 and his greyhounds. Those strike me as far more notable than some puff. By all means, a sentence saying something like "Pattinson is considered an aggressive fast bowler who can bowl ousting deliveries at 150 km/h", with one or two appropriate sources (the Daly Telegraph one, clearly. Beyond that, probably the Gates one, but follow the source through to its actual location rather than relying on an aggregation site ffs. Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:05, 11 February 2021 (UTC) Reply

Blue Square Thing, Thats Good that u brought the matter to Talk Page instead of adding your personal commentary again and again. Now point is Espn cricinfo doesn' t say he is Fast-Medium it only said he is bowler next He has been timed at 155 kph in 2012 fastest among current Aussie quicks just behind Mitchell Starc (160.4 kph), He has been timed quicker tha Pat Cummins and if anyone saw him in international arena often he regularly clocks 90 mph even after breaking down several times. If his is fast-medium so is Pat Cummins. As for Puffery Well He is most regarded among current bunch of Aussie quicks along with Cummins but both have several back injuries which cut down their carreres and Dennis Lillee himself said that. Hope u remove ur Biases and add content of mine i can add multiple sources if u want. Make sure to reply and participate in discussion further. Here is reliable article from Well known sports site he is quicker than Cummins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anachronistic 328 (talkcontribs) 12:54, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Even Cricbuzz arguably finest of all Cricket Sites call him Right Arm Fast so better add he is Right Arm Fast. https://m.cricbuzz.com/profiles/2283/james-pattinson. Anachronistic 328 (talk) 12:57, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

CricInfo says fast-medium: the seventh row down at the top of the page in the profile. The SportsInfo source says 151 was his fastest measured delivery, so unless he's gotten quicker, we need to find sources (and reliable speed guns - not a juiced one during the IPL was it?). And if you're going to suggest that CricBuzz is the finest of all cricket sites, then that's laughable. Please, this is an Australian article. Shall we look for Australian sources? Like the two I've suggested above. I've made a suggestion for the sort of thing we might include that is actually written in a vaguely encyclopaedic way - we don't need to know that Lillee said something or other about him at this point, we can summarise his style of bowling in a sentence or two without the obvious puffery. So another user ignoring both CA and Cricinfo. I'll throw Wisden in as well which also lists him as fast-medium. I've seen nothing that's anywhere near as reliable as these three sources. Got anything? Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:12, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing:, Yes i added source of Icc the body who runs the game it mentions Dale steyn as Right arm fast seam so do in case of Cummins and Patto too. Anyway watch his bowling videos on You tube and saw speed radar as i mention Ca sources are nonsense they use to mention Johnson too as left arm medium pacer. Thank you sir. Sam O' Donnell (talk) 16:25, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also in case of Bhuvi (Bhuvneswar kumar) icc clearly mention Right arm medium seam unlike Pattinson,Cummins and Steyn who all are mentioned as Right arm fast seam. Sam O' Donnell (talk) 16:28, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is profile of Bhuvneswar [1] Sam O' Donnell (talk) 04:41, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing: [2] This is profile of Wahab riaz who is also mentioned as Left arm fast seam like Pattinson,Cummins and Steyn.Sam O' Donnell (talk) 16:39, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing: Just for additonal confirmation have a look at these [3] profile of Kyle Jamieson he is mentioned as Medium seam which he is actually a fast medium bowler. Anything more ???? Sam O' Donnell (talk) 04:41, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm confused. Are you suggesting that Jamison is a medium pace bowler? Or that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a medium pace bowler? I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make, but that suggests to me that the ICC profiles aren't really to be trusted. Everyone else says Jamison is fast-medium. Like everyone. Could you clarify, otherwise I'll have to assume you mean that the ICC profiles aren't reliable. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:44, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

If not then please update this on outer wikipedia page where it still shows fast medium. Sam O' Donnell (talk) 04:42, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing: When did i say that ICC profiles aren't reliable you are just putting words in my mouth and ICC profiles mention all tearway quicks like Pattinson,Cummins,Steyn,Johnson as Right/Left arm fast (seam). Next Jamieson is indeed fast medium or medium fast. A bowler who bowls in early 130s and rarely touches 140 is fast medium. As for Pattinson he bowls in high 140s on regular basis and can clock over 150 too that is subjective to fitness. Sam O' Donnell (talk) 02:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

But the ICC says Jamison is medium, so we should use that, yes? Ahead of any other source. Because, checks notes, they "runs the game"? The same with Kumar, yes? Because, well, the ICC is clearly a more reliable source than Wisden. Or Cricket Australia, Or CricInfo. Or CricketArchive. Or Nottinghamshire CCC. Or Brisbane Heat. All of which describe him as fast-medium.
Now, here's a thing, fast-medium means pretty fast most of the time, but with a bit of skill, wit and guile so they move the ball around. Rather than just fast because they can. In prose, bowlers like this are usually described as being "a fast bowler". Guess what: it doesn't make that much difference and reliable sources have drawn the line somewhere. Six profiles say fast-medium, one says fast. Err, no brainer really, especially when the one that says fast is clearly wrong about two other bowlers. Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Blue Square Thing:, What you want me to say ???? ICC is fraud ok then so is Cricket Isn't it ???? You are still not getting a simple point which i explained multiple times. If a bowler who bowls in high 140s is fast medium, Then who is fast ????? As for your nonsense sources i already said same Cricket Australia source use to mention Mitch Johnson as fast-medium too, But Oh no it is reliable because u said so, Dont you ???? Cricbuzz also mention him fast i have 6 more sources which mention him fast,You need them ??? Anyway if you had a working brain which i don't think you have, And jamieson hardly bowls at such high pace. Curtly ambrose is generally described as fast but do you know he was timed in later parts of his carrer only in 130s so do Richard Hadlee who was timed at 127 kph ??? Better have some knowledge before describing ICC source unreliable. Dale steyn hardly bowls over 150 in any part of his carrer infact was well below 90 MP/h most times during his carrer in longer spells whereas Johnson who mostly clocked 90 mph barrier has been described as fast-medium till 2013 by same CA source. Right arm medium doesn't mean slower than Graeme Swann, As from pattern i clearly understood that they mention tearway 90 mph quick as Right/left arm fast and in other cases like Bhuvneswar,Jamieson have been mentioned as Medium or fast-medium. Is these so hard to get ???? I don't think so. Just for your one more stupid point that fast medium means bit more skill, crafts likes slower ones,Cutter So Waqar younis didn't bowl slower ones ???? Or Wasim Akram ???? As a West Indian who grew up in late 80s i know Andy Roberts use to bowl slower bouncers too so was he Fast-Medium ???? Dennis Lillee after his back injuries turned into a craftsman who use to work out players through cutters and all these new weapons but he was out and out fast??? Wasn't he ??? Pattinson can clock in high 140s as i added one more source for that recently and for your kind information he clocked 150 many times have a look at Chepauk test in 2013. Give me a break and cut this crap now. Sam O' Donnell (talk) 12:14, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

So which source is reliable? The one that says Jamison is a medium pace bowler or the six that say Patterson is fast-medium? I don't understand - and there seems to be a pile of OR in all of your arguments. But keep making them: it all helps to figure out exactly what's going on here.
