This is an interesting topic, at least to me, but I would like to invite other editors to evaluate its tone because in a few points the article resembles more the narration of a story than a biography or the chronicle of an event.
For example, instead of an expression like "[...] said an indignant James." I would write: "Poovey, indignant, replied: ..." or even completely substituting the quotation with a paraphrase. The last sentence of the article is "James Poovey had won his freedom through utter non-violence and non-cooperation." and it sounds like a typical ending of a tale that aims to convey a moral lesson or to highlight the moral victory of the protagonist.
I have also a doubt about the last phrase of the first paragraph: "...however he would successfully endeavor to find alternative means of obtaining his freedom.", which is a statement that does not follow the chronological order of the events but, again, seems just a method to create anticipation during a narration.
I'm not sure whether my English proficiency is good enough to make the modifications and since I'm also a newbie, here at Wikipedia, I prefer to wait for the opinions of more experienced editors. I'll "go bold" if no opinions will be shared by other people. ► LowLevel(talk)00:23, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
