The changes I have made do no more than remedy a lamentably one sided account which suppresses the urgent, and well documented, questions about Marker's role in East Timor. For "Ross" to delete them is no more than partisan censorship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bangkokesque (talkcontribs) 15:20, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

And yet when I added them back, you deleated your own posts. Maybe before reverting, you actually read the article --RossF18 (talk) 15:22, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Further, balancing is too be applauded, not deleated. However, until the added balancing comments are sourced, they either carry the "to be sourced" tag (which in good faith will remain) or as is often the policy, unsourced claims are deleated. I did not subscribe to the policy of automatic deleation of unsourced claims, but neither should you deleat sourced claims even if you disagree with them. Add sourced alternative views if you must, but do not deleat sourced points of view simply because you disagree. --RossF18 (talk) 15:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The background stuff about East Timor is irrelevant here; it's well covered on other pages. My additions are sourced - now by page number. The web site of the university which employs Marker isn't an independent source. I haven't deleted any sourced claims. The word "delete" is not spelled "deleate" or "deleat". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bangkokesque (talkcontribs) 15:48, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks much better now that you've sourced your claims. Although now academic, you did remove the sourced East Timor background information without discussion. It's fine, but let's not kid ourselves about you not removing sourced parts of the article without discussion. Lets keep in mind that you also removed much of the header, which was sourced in one of the top newspapers in the nation. This is not a legal proceeding and hersay rules do not apply, especially when sourced by leading newspapers. Please do no delete things you disagree with (and I'm not talking about the irrelevant East Timor "stuff.") Also, thanks for the spelling lesson. --RossF18 (talk) 17:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Further questions

edit

The following seems to be very peacockish...

However, some journalists reporting the East Timor referendum regarded Marker as excessively indulgent towards Indonesian officials, military and police officers who would go on to play key roles in the deadly violence inflicted on the territory after the vote for independence.

Who is "*some* journalists"? - I only see Parry's reference. Thus, I suggest the above be deleted or heavily edited and limited to facts. --Merbabu (talk) 22:36, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

PS, I’ve since decided to remove it for now. It can be reinstated if it is shown that it is indeed “some journalists”, and not just Parry. I am suspicious the phrase in this instance is based on Parry’s specific comments alone (which I have of course left in the article). --Merbabu (talk) 22:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
