editThis page isn't about the character AT ALL. It provides even less information about Jane's personality and history than does the main page about the novel. This page should be deleted if no-one is able to offer at least cursory coverage of the purported topic of the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:6:4D00:2CE:C812:3B05:B310:E4C7 (talk) 00:38, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
All of the information in this article are already discussed in the article Jane Eyre. If there's additional information to add about the character, this article can be merged into that one. --Bookworm857158367 03:38, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Hello-- I'm the one who started this page. I assure you that it's not done, yet-- I do plan to add more info about the actual character (right now, I readily admit that it basically just has a plot summary). My computer over-heats, though, so I was afraid of loosing my work. By the end of the night, this page should be better. Elbeonore 04:04, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Mental illness or possible case for Huntington's disease?
editIt looks like Bertha Mason's insanity is genetic, but is this a possible case for Huntington's disease or some other disorder? Perhaps, a late on-set schizophrenia that runs in the family? 128.146.43.113 (talk) 15:37, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
== I don't know answer for Schizzophrenia question but ==
But I know this novel is a masterpiece, written by a great talent (Charlotte Brontë). I am not even old or female, I am male in 30's, first wacthed a film adaptation many years ago when I was little (1980's?) in Russian, but with completely different (obviously) perspective today February 2012 in English (we immigrated). 1943 film version, not 100% truthful to source novel but for Lord's sake this IS a masterpiece, invoking powerful emotions approx. 200 (TWO HUNDRED) years after author's life.
One of those literary works which don't fade over time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.45.22.34 (talk) 05:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Historical and Cultural Context Original Research
editI just added an OR tag to this section because the main argument here about connections between the Jane Eyre novel/character and Quakers/Delaware/the drafting of the US Constitution (?!?!??!?) seems to be based on flimsy, very overextended original research synthesis ( adding a few references that don't directly support the argument but just the individual bits you're pulling together in your synthesis doesn't mean the overall argument/suggestin isn't an original research concoction). Very odd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.180.152.164 (talk) 00:44, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Though Jane Eyre is several times called Quaker-like, nowhere in any edition of the book I've read is there anything about the Delaware Valley, John Dickinson or the United States Constitution. What do they add to our understanding of Jane's character? And why did careless Charlotte Bronte fail to include anything on the vital topic of Scandinavian descendants oppressed by French Catholicism? If only she had thought of it, how much richer the book would have been. And isn't it handy to know the religious background of an actress who played another character altogther?
- Rather than challenge this bizarre section, why not just delete it? --Clifford Mill (talk) 19:17, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- I have to agree here (as much as I hate the deletionist craze generally), why not to delete whole article? The fix was promised in year 2007 and the overheating computer is most likely gone finally, so if we haven't got any fix until now, we won't get it ever, I am afraid.

Plot arc Tone flag
editFlagged Plot arc section to suggest rewriting to address tone, as current content would benefit from being more formal, clear, and detached. CactusPlum (talk) 03:24, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
