Tropical Depression 04F

edit

As the Fiji floods so far have only been caused by Tropical Depression 04F, i am working on the Meterological History in a sandbox. Thus when i have finished the Meterological History, i will be merging it into this article and suggest an move to Tropical Depression 04F (2009).Jason Rees (talk) 02:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I fully support the suggestion to move the article. It makes sense to cover details about the storm's effects (i.e. the flooding) in an article about the storm itself. In addition, Tropical Depression 04F (2009) is a less ambiguous title, since Fiji may experience other major episodes of flooding in 2009. –Black Falcon (Talk) 20:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
ok ill move the article in a minute, i will write the meterological history over the next few days using the logs located on the main talk page of the season.Jason Rees (talk) 23:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Damages

edit

The figure of "16.4 Million" in damages seems to be outdated. This January 19 ABC News (Australia) article gives an estimate of "over $44 million", while Fiji Times reported that crop damage alone was $25–30 million and damage to schools was $1.3 million (I'm not sure if these are Fijian dollars, Australian dollars or US dollars). Does anyone have a more recent estimate of total (not just crop and school) damages? –Black Falcon (Talk) 20:53, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The latest UN SITREP says the total adds up to 115 million FJD, which converted to USD is equal to about 65 million USD. This site is quite good for Impact reports by the way - [1] Jason Rees (talk) 23:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the information and for the link to ReliefWeb; the site seems to be an excellent source of information for most major disasters and I've bookmarked it for future use. Thanks again, –Black Falcon (Talk) 03:42, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unlike what I thought at the time 11 years ago, TD 04F only played a minor part in the overall flooding situation and thus only really needs to be mentioned briefly.Jason Rees (talk) 18:28, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
