Project assessment

The chronology and list of Brits in Japan is quite detailed and extensive - good work on that. But it would be great to have a prose paragraph narrative of the relations. This would be more interesting to read, and is particularly valuable as it would give better details on each individual event & treaty than the simple list. This article seems limited. Shouldn't there be a section about their relations today, for instance? Contralya 20:27, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Somewhat of a bias compared to other relations?

edit

Does it seem that "Japan-United States-_relations" has more of a bias compared to "Japan-United_Kingdom_relations?" It would be interesting to see how many Britons and Japanese people have favouritism to each other's country, and who do not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BritonLovesNippon (talkcontribs) 20:09, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

1906 Garter Mission

edit

How about a mention of the 1906 mission by the Duke of Connaught awarding the Order of the Garter to Emperor Meiji, accompanied by the likes of Lord Redesdale and Miles Lampson? Redesdale wrote a book about it.78.16.71.226 (talk) 19:37, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Christopher Dresser; Bernard Leach

edit

I suggest that Dresser and Leach deserve inclusion on the list of British people in Japan. Dresser was one of the most influential industrial and artistic designers in Britain in the late 19th century, and his visit to Japan, and subsequent book on Japan and its manufactures, were important in creating cultural and trading links between the two countries.

Bernard Leach was the leading studio potter in Britain in the early 20th century, and his visits to Japan and friendship with Japanese potters (notably Hamada) were also influential on ceramic art in both countries.109.149.2.33 (talk) 21:34, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have since added these two and a few more influential characters, the ones on the page were at least to me, wholly too little. Especially in the context of the contribution to Japanology in English and intercultural exchange in contemporary period. (User:TykeLass) 9 : 02 GMT 22 November 2019
