This article is about a topic whose name is originally rendered in the Japanese script; however the article does not have that version of its name in the article's lead paragraph. Anyone who is knowledgeable enough with the original language is invited to assist in adding the Japanese script. Proposed changes
editShouldn’t this article be renamed “Japanese language dictionaries”?? The opening paragraph is wholly inappropriate to an encyclopedia article, and should be replaced. Do NOT begin “There exist” (an even more pernicious form of “There is” and “There are”). (It appears again in the second paragraph.) The whole tone needs to be more informational and descriptive. What basic sort of dictionaries does the Japanese language require, for example, and why? Also needs history: when were the first language dictionaries created? How have they evolved? Are there any major monuments in the history of dictionaries? What about dictionaries of Japanese and other languages? These seem to be included under “General Japanese Dictionaries,” but this is not a meaningful category: it not includes three kokugo jiten and one wa-ei jiten. All these categories should be clearly delineated. Jb05-Hds2 23:35, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Dictionary update
editThe section on "Kan-Ei jiten (漢英辞典)" mentions Spahn & Hadamitzky's 1989 dictionary, but I don't know that it is still in common use. To my knowledge, it has been superseded by Spahn & Hadamitzky's 1996 "The Kanji Dictionary" (Tuttle), which isn't listed at all.
I'll leave updating the entry to the experts, but I thought I'd mention it in case someone actually reads this... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iahklu (talk • contribs) 02:37, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
