Was the reference to New World wine really irrelevant? Michael Jackson drew a similar comparison. Dr-john 12:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal

edit

An editor has proposed merging Black Nikka into Japanese whisky. This is the place to discuss the merger.

I favor a merger either into Nikka (my first choice) or Japanese whisky. The topic of the article Black Nikka is a single product with a single brand. The article on either the maker or the product classification would be fuller with this information merged. The information can be split between the two articles or duplicated wherever it benefits both. Fg2 (talk) 22:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I believe that both Black Nikka and Japanese whisky are independently notable. Therefore keeping both articles would be the better choice. I see more potential for a merge between Black Nikka and Nikka. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
On consideration, I feel that a merge to Nikka is preferable. Have altered the merge templates to reflect this.Unagi Inu (talk) 04:27, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

lead sentence

edit

"Broadly speaking the style of Japanese whisky is more similar to that of Scotch whisky than other major styles of whisky."

Does this mean

Broadly speaking the style of Japanese whisky is more similar to that of Scotch whisky than other major styles of whisky are. (Sentence claims Japanese whisky is the closest to Scotch)

or

Broadly speaking the style of Japanese whisky is more similar to that of Scotch whisky than to other major styles of whisky. (Sentence claims Scotch is the nearest major style)

The latter. Feel free to change it if you think it's clearer. oknazevad (talk) 13:55, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

A different lead sentence

Japanese whisky is produced strictly in Japan.

I have a vision of dominatrices supervising the production.

I suppose this means that whisky marketed as Japanese is produced in Japan only. Well, pretty obvious -- until I remember that much "Japanese" wine is imported from elsewhere. So OK, whisky marketed as Japanese is only produced in Japan. (If this is so, and I really don't know.) If it's so, does it need to be in the opening sentence? I wouldn't have thought that it was the most important thing about Japanese whisky ... but then I'm a complete ignoramus (not least because the appeal of whisky eludes me). -- Hoary (talk) 23:52, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
