The article says: "He remained a news presenter at SVT until July 2008, when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer".

An article in Expressen (http://www.expressen.se/Nyheter/1.1518712/jarls-kamp-mot-smartan) gives another picture of his illness. It says that he had known about his disease for a couple of years. In July 2008 his condition was so bad that he couldn't work anymore.
