todo list

edit
  • sources: there are plenty of good sources available on google archive search.
  • JasperSoft: this section should outline how the company was form, inc. the transfer of I.P., which was a bit novel (an open source project being "closed").
  • iReports: I dont think iReports warrants its own article at this stage. Screenshots of iReports would be useful. John Vandenberg 20:10, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Features section, a brochure

edit

I pretty much just nuked the features section because it was extremely unencyclopedic and written like a brochure. Specifically, claims of world anything with links directly to the website. Specifically, "You can do X" and "You can do Y". The old content is still in the history, but as is, it doesn't belong on wikipedia. Cburnett 21:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

JRXML vs .jasper

edit

This section mentions "The main difference between using XML and a .jasper file[...]" but the previous paragraph implies that XML is the only option. This sentence needs clarification. I think perhaps JRXML files are compiled to .jasper files before being used? -- 41.245.144.66 (talk) 19:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are right: .jasper files are compiled / packed .jrxml files. iReport can do this for you. There is also a Java class for that purpose, if you want to achieve the compilation "on your own". I tried the clarification within the article.--johayek (talk) 11:26, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

It is a problematic framework, where other much better alternatives (open source) are available. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.114.183.1 (talk) 13:29, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Some proposed changes

edit

I have a conflict of interest with regard to the JasperReports Wikipedia article - I am a current full time employee of the parent company (TIBCO Jaspersoft). I am requesting these edits made as the page is in disrepair and has been taken over by others advertizing their solutions.

  • Remove "Third Party Tools" section - this is not encyclopedic, they are mostly links to commercial plugins for the product that have no relation
  • Remove "Competitors" section - this is not encyclopedic (nor is it exhaustive)

Agreed. Some Wikipedia articles about tech products do mention their competitors—iPhone, for example—but listing so many tangentially related applications is undue weight on an article that is supposed to be about JasperReports. Altamel (talk) 02:23, 8 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
