House Bill 3435 section

edit

I've removed the section due to several concerns: WP:NOTSOAPBOX, WP:UNDUE, and WP:BLP generally; per WP:BRD, discuss the material before re-adding. A sentence or two at most could be appropriate with sources directly tying the issue to Kaufman as opposed to the Joint Committee - see WP:SYNTH. AV3000 (talk) 17:59, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why this is important

edit

One of the important functions of committee chairmen in the Massachusetts legislature is to advance the welfare of the citizens of the commonwealth. Particularly when bills involve the use of state money, we expect that painful choices must be made.

However House Bill 3435 does not involve any state money. It is a local initiative by the citizens of the Town of Sudbury who in their considered judgment want to help their less fortunate senior citizen neighbors by a slight shift in the property tax burden.

It is for this reason that the treatment of House Bill 3435 is such an important part of Representative Kaufman's biography which starts by describing his position in the Massachusets legislature.

It seems appropriate and fair therefore that his legacy as House Chairman of the Joint Committee on Revenue be an important topic within his biography.

The Post on House Bill 3435 is one thread of his legacy that deserves attention. As time goes on, other important legislation will become part of his legacy and should also be included in his biography.

Finally an issue important to the 15,000+ residents of Sudbury deserves more than one or two sentences as suggested by another editor. It deserves enough space to describe the situtation and what is at stake.SudburyTaxRelief (talk) 20:32, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why don't you post here some proposed text to be included in the article, along with secondary sources? It would have to be much shorter than what you put in, even if it's longer than two sentences. It must directly relate to Kaufman, not just to the issues; otherwise, it's not relevant to the Kaufman article. It must be supported by secondary sources - read up on WP:PRIMARY to get an idea how this works. Also, take a look at some of the policies cited by AV3000 above - they also may help you.
Other editors more experienced than you can then take a look at what you propose and we can further discuss it.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:38, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Response to further deletions

edit

I've tried to source everything with secondary sources. There are newspaper articles written by news reporters discussing the issues. They are intellegent people who are not primary sources. I've also included primary sources to the extent they are official records of either the Town of Sudbury or from the Massachusetts legislature.

Each time I have inserted material related to this subject it has been completely deleted. Each time in response, I have changed the entry to try to be responsive to the stated concerns.

I think it would be much more helpful for the other editors to provide suggestions on how this topic might be better rather than just deleted. If they can do so in less space, terrific. Otherwise I think the material on Jay Kaufman's legacy is important. My treatment was compliant with taking a neutral view. The facts were stated and the consequences of those facts described in a factual manner with source references at all relevant points. SudburyTaxRelief (talk) 20:53, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Frankly, what you put in was a mess. We are not required to review the material just to suit you. If you don't want to take the time to learn how to edit at Wikipedia, that's your business, but you can't put the burden on other editors to do the work. If I have time, I'll review what you want, but I make no promises. Meanwhile, stop battling over this.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:18, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

That will be quite enough of that.

Biographies must be neutral - not political soapboxes. I've protected this page so that consensus language can be worked out. When you're ready for an administrator to add something to the article, use {{editrequested}} to request such. -Philippe (talk) 21:32, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, that makes things a little easier and calmer.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:36, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

User:Bbb23 has pointed out WP:POLITICIAN to me, so please change the article's {{Notability}} tag to {{Primary sources|BLP=yes}}, thanks. AV3000 (talk) 05:21, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Done. -Philippe (talk) 04:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
