Botanized?

edit

In this sentence, "The son of an innkeeper, he 'botanized' in the company of the duc de la Rochefoucauld, in the democratic companionship that early science fostered." , does the writer mean he "flourished" when using he "botanized? It seems like a strange word to use especially considering he is a physics and chemisty teacher. --Rajah 14:59, 1 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

To botanize is to look for and study plants. Awien (talk) 23:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hyperbole

edit

The article contains the sentence "The young hero swam in his own blood." Obviously this is hyperbole, but is this supposed to be a quotation of popular historical accounts of the incident, or what? And if so, can we have a source? 71.141.89.149 07:10, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Flight pioneer

"The wallpaper became wet because of extreme weather conditions" can't be right. Presumably what is meant is envelope? Awien (talk) 22:57, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Death

edit

The 1870 book Wonderful Balloon Ascents says that final ascent was with his brother, named Pierre Romain, that the balloon did catch fire "with a violet flame", that the body of Roziers was recovered burned and that Romain survived a few minutes after the crash. See page 184. A contrary account on the next page says that the balloon did not catch fire (as the article states now). Is there a further source of this account to differentiate between the two? Otherwise, perhaps both should be given in the article. Inductiveload (talk) 18:55, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Several separate accounts in contemporary English newspapers, as well as the 1870 book noted here, claim that the balloon was on fire when it crashed. Apart from the one you mention here, the only reference to support the "without catching fire" claim given here and on the Roziere balloon page are in a travel book from 2010, whose sources aren't given.
