He was in the SS!
editHe only claimed he was in the Resistance when people brought up his membership of the French SS! Apparently he was undermining the Nazi state from within.... Here's a nice picture of Balestre defending the French Republic against the evils of Nazism:
Removal of unverified content
editI completely removed accusations of Balestre being involved with SS. The only source of that is an anonymous article on an anonymous website. Bold statements like that should be stongly verified. Balestre isn't the most beloved person in F1 but it doesn't mean he was a Nazi. Unlike, btw, Oswald Mosley, the father of Max Mosley who replaced Balestre. - Balestre's involvement with the SS was never disputed, only his real intentions during the war. He claimed to have joined as a double agent for the resistance, which many did not believe, but no one was ever able to prove anything either supporting or disputing Balestre's version of events. This article has to mention his war time activities, so I have reinforced the statements with additional references. QueenCake (talk) 23:27, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
