editThe Jeff Decker page is significant because he is a widely known bronze metal artist who has created The Hill Climber which stands in front of the Harley-Davidson Museum. He is the one and only licensed sculptor for Harley-Davidson. Labcoatmedia (talk) 04:09, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Could a wikipedia master assist in creating an unbiased biography page of this well known bronze sculpture artist? It seems the wiki team thus far is very thorough on pointing out the inadequacies and lack of citations on this page. I would like to create a fully unbiased and accurate portrayal of Jeff Decker as an artist and historian. Any help offered by the wiki team would be greatly appreciated. - It's hard to see you avoiding a conflict of interest when you were hired to create the page. Eeekster (talk) 04:42, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- I was not hired specifically to create the page but rather as a web designer to create a blog for him. He mentioned he did not have a Wikipedia page and so I went out of my way to create it for him (not getting paid to create this page, but doing it because I am a fan of his). I admire Jeff Decker's artwork, and believe he is a talented artist who should be recognized for his artwork. I find wikipedia to be a great source for information about people and would like to see a biography of him placed on Wikipedia. There is a legitimate need for a page about this artist who is very well known as a motorcycle historian and sculptor. I understand the need to have unbiased pages about living individuals, and I am merely asking for assistance in creating this page to live up to wikipedia's high standards. - Your first edit on this page stated, "I was hired by Jeff Decker to create this wikipedia page in order to better explain who he is and what he does as a well known artist." This raises red flags and establishes a conflict of interest. While a conflict of interest does not forbid you from creating or editing a page with which you are connected, writing from a neutral point of view has been shown to be difficult. That said, the article at this point is sufficiently supported with reliable sources that are independent of the subject. This is key to retaining articles on Wikipedia. Something else to keep in mind for the future? Write and develop your articles in a subpage of your userspace. And make sure your article is fully supported with significant coverage, presented through reliable sources that are independent of the subject. This will minimize the chance that your article will be quickly deleted. Great job on bringing the article into compliance. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any future questions.
