Ameena Matthews and The Interrupters
editThere is no mention of his daughter Ameena Matthews who works to prevent violence on the Chicago streets. She is one of the subjects of the Oscar nominated documentary The Interrupters. It seems this should be added somewhere.

editThis seems to be a serious article. Here is a possible source http://www.theurbantwist.com/news/122/ARTICLE/1953/2007-11-14.html agr 23:42, 20 December 2007
- Yes, I saw who he was after I marked it for delete. Boy, those gang articles are rough! No harm though, it is WP:BLP and can be recreated with sources at any time. --Alfadog (talk) 03:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- I recreated it with a great source. He is obviously notable and in a very current manner. I will add to it as I have the time. --Alfadog (talk) 04:00, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
"jeff fort he have 12 kids" at the end of this article seems to be out of place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.91.113.101 (talk) 22:43, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Initial draft
editI wrote up a first draft of a Bio with a basic chronological sketch. This probably needs cleanup and balance fixes. Notably absent from this draft are the Black Panthers, involvement with the civil rights movement, and the Nixon invite. I'll try to work those in. • Gene93k (talk) 18:07, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
"In" vs. "on."
editThroughout the article, the author uses the formulation "in the South Side" rather than "on the South Side." I have lived in Chicago for over 40 years, read its newspapers religiously and thousands of articles in national print media, and hundreds of books about the city. I have never seen this formulation in reference to broad areas of the city even once prior to this article. Why do you keep saying "in" rather than "on"?Maccb (talk) 02:07, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

I was in school with Jeff Fort and a neighbor
editI remember Jeff was a “regular kid” with some sadness. I think he was a kid from Mississippi that migrated to Chicago in tge 50’s and was scared and trying to adjust to being in the city, like many kids in our neighborhood. This was 65th. and Blackstone.
He is 4 years older then me, and I recall him sitting in my 4th. grade class… at 14 yrs.old. We were at Walter Scott elementary school. The school was torn down years ago, and it became a football field for the Catholic boys high school, Mt. Carmel.
The Blackstone Rangers was a gang of older teenage guys that actually didn’t bother younger kids. In fact, I remember one incident when one of the older guys stopped two younger guys who were fighting. The older guy told the two youngsters, as he rubbed the back of their hands, and said, “ you don’t fight any one that looks like you ! “ Jeff lived in the “Red building”… which was a very large tenement building on the southwest corner of 65th. place and Blackstone St. The residents were very poor. There was people from Mississippi in Puerto Rico living there. I only went into the bld. a couple of times. It was dark and scary. I remember it smelled like rats and roaches. This was an oder I learned after going into various dilapidated apartment bldgs. in the neighborhood.
I remember the older gang guys taking food to single moms in the Red Bld. I remember seeing adults fighting or arguing in front of the building, with kids and other adults standing back, watching and listening. On occasion, there was a knife or small caliber gun involved. My mother told me she would spank me or my sisters if we were out there watching. We were told to come into our home when anything like that started. My father used to say, “if you see people running toward a problem, we were to run in the opposite direction. We did as we were told. These are my memories about the neighborhood that Jeff Fort and I lived in, as children. 2603:8000:7F03:4604:8078:7F52:7C6C:5A08 (talk) 17:00, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
