Mariner or Yankee?

edit

Nelson played more years in Seattle and had three separate stints on the Mariners. Isn't it fair to list him with Seattle colors? Would like to hear everyone's thoughts.

Yankee he signed with the Yankees before the 2007 season to retire as a Yankee--Yankees10 22:59, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Yankees10Reply
BFD. He didn't play with NY in '07 and it was largely a publicity stunt.
The main thing was he signed with the Yankees because he wanted to RETIRE AS A YANKEE, and I doubt it was a publicity stunt--Yankees10 00:48, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Yankees10Reply
Retired players should not have colors, period. Obviously there are some professional athletes that would have a clear-cut choice for colors. However, there are others that might be impossible to agree upon. Therefore the sake of consistency, retired players should not have colors. They are not under contract with teams anyway, there is no need for them.Chris Nelson 01:16, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I think he should have Yankee colors. He played on 5 pennant and WS champ teams with the Yanks. I don't feel strongly either way, but those are my thoughts. - Masonpatriot 01:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Colors should be neutral, I explain my ideas here:Talk:Reggie Jackson
From a purely objective standpoint, look at Nelson's career:
Mariners: 432 games, 24 wins, 447 IP, 471 SO, 23 SV, 3.26 ERA
Yankees: 331 games, 23 wins, 311 IP, 334 SO, 9 SV, 3.47 ERA
He pitched 101 more games with the Mariners and recorded much better statistics in Seattle than with the Yankees. He should consequently be represented as a Mariner. 192.234.99.1 11:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you go by the numbers, you have to say he spent the majority of his career, and posted his best seasons, as a member of the Seattle Mariners. Joeidaho 14:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Mariners; whether you look at seasons, games or saves, a slight majority of his career was with the Mariners, but only about 35-40% with the Yankees. For me, the final clincher is that his only All-Star selection was as a Mariner. MisfitToys 23:14, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Title change?

edit

The title, "Jeff Nelson (baseball)" implies that he is the only Jeff Nelson affiliated with baseball, which is not true. (Jeff Nelson (umpire)). I suggest renaming this page to "Jeff Nelson (pitcher)." After all, it's a bit unfair for the ump. Delaywaves talk 23:05, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jeff Nelson (baseball)Jeff Nelson (pitcher) – There is an umpire also named Jeff Nelson. The common protocol, which isn't really touched on here but should be, when a baseball player shares his name with an umpire is to disambiguate both by position/role, not to use the "baseball" disambig on the player. See Rick Reed (pitcher) and Rick Reed (umpire) as a prominent example. Paul Runge and Gerry Davis are less prominent ones, but they also follow this rule. Thus, it makes sense for the two Jeff Nelsons to also follow it. JustJamie820 (talk) 01:59, 14 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
