Talk:Jerónimos Monastery

Current status

I'm very confused as to what this building currently is. Our first sentence says "The Jerónimos Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery is a monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome". But the article itself says the monks abandoned the monastery in 1833 - in which case it is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, unless they have returned; and possibly a current something else. Can anyone clarify? TSP (talk) 11:31, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Tombs

edit

The article states: "In one of these arcades is the sober tomb of the poet Fernando Pessoa, while several other tombs in the chapterhouse contain the remains of the poet and playwright Almeida Garrett (1799–1854), the writer-historian Alexandre Herculano (1810–1877), former presidents Teófilo Braga (1843–1924) and Óscar Carmona (1869–1951)." The National Pantheon of Portugal is located at the Church of Santa Engrácia and contains the remains of a number of prominent Portuguese. For example, Óscar Carmona was laid to rest at the Jerónimos Monastery, but his remains were transferred to the National Pantheon in 1966. Issue: there appears to be some contradiction among the articles for Jerónimos Monastery, Almeida Garrett and Church of Santa Engrácia (National Pantheon) regarding the resting places of several prominent Portuguese. Any clarifications would be helpful. 192.40.24.4 (talk) 14:06, 5 January 2017 (UTC) (Shandafirde) 3Jan2017Reply
