I would agree it's a bit too long, but it's well documented and relevant to the player. I don't think deleting it is the correct decision. I'd suggest going with something like this, which includes the same facts as the previous version but less waffle:

In April 2024, Finlayson was suspended for three games due to making a homophobic slur against an Essendon player. On his wife Kellie Finlayson's podcast Sh!t Talkers, Finlayson said "it pissed me off that I got a three-week suspension."

After the fallout regarding his comments on the podcast, Finlayson issued a statement: "What I said on the field that night was totally unacceptable. I knew that at the time and I know it now. I stress, I have no issue with the sanction at all."

We don't need any extra editorialising. I also think the "See also: Homosexuality in modern sports § Homophobia in sports culture" can be removed, it feels unnecessary BugGhost🪲👻 00:57, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

From my admittedly limited knowledge with the whole thing, this does seem to be a better solution.
Having 300-ish words covering a back and forth between the article's subject and various commentators can come off as a bit... much, at least compared with other Wikipedia articles on sports figures who've gotten themselves into similar situations. From a cursory glance, a paragraph or two would seem to be par for the course so this proposal looks good to me. If the reader wants to learn more, they can click on one of the many sources cited for the added editorializing. --Sigma440 (talk) 03:36, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
