editAs a professional steel player for over 40 years, I object strenuously to the term “lap steel” used throughout this article. A “lap steel” is a small, usually 6-string instrument which is held, as the name implies, on the players lap. Byrd played a 7- string Rickenbacker console steel (with legs of its own), as well as single and double neck 8-string non-pedal guitars. Not every non-pedal sell guitar is a lap steel. I’d suggest rewording the article to eliminate the word “lap” and simply refer to the instrument as a “steel guitar.”

editUnlike most of the things I've created I'd actually heard of, and heard, this guy before. He's fairly notable for this instrument.--T. Anthony (talk) 03:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
