Personal life
editI just expanded text to
- ", to Blanche Irène, née Gaebel. Daughter Adèle Irène DuMond married physicist Wolfgang Panofsky, who was DuMond's Ph.D. student; daughter Andrée Désirée DuMond married physicist Richard Wilson; son André DuMond died in early childhood.".
As I myself am a son of Andrée Désirée (DuMond) and Richard Wilson, I myself will not add more detail to the article, even though I had no direct contact with J DuMond as an adult (due to my own inattention, which I now regret).
But, I am willing to assist other editors who have more NPOVs. For example, J DuMond's second wife was named Louise, and I could dig up her original surname if needed. There's a bit of family scandal there, because, according to family lore, J DuMond met both of his fiancées/wives around the same time while he was living in Paris as a young adult. WW I
editThe article omits any mention of J DuMond's WW I US military service, which could be confirmed or refuted via US government records, in principle. According to family lore, J DuMond - my grandfather - served in the US Army, in the field in France, doing the same work that actually is mentioned (but as civilian work) in the article, "determining the distance of [enemy] artillery via sound". (Perhaps the earlier German-language Wikipedia editor lacked this info. Or, perhaps my mother misunderstood her father's telling of his experience, and J DuMond was actually a civilian expert attached to a US military unit.) According to family lore, J DuMond was at one point during WW I billeted with a rural French family. According to family lore, at that time J DuMond already spoke French fluently, becasue he had spent the first ten years (approximately) of his life in Paris, in the Paris home of his American maternal grandparents, the Kerr family from Philadelphia. According to family lore, after WW I ended, J DuMond stayed in Paris for some time, at the home of his maternal grandparents, instead of returning immediately to the US.
