References

I plan to add to this article over the next few days, and in particular to improve the references. Would anyone object if I changed the referencing system to list-defined at the same time? I'll probably do so in a day or so unless anyone objects. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:04, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lead image

edit

I replaced the lead image File:Brillenschaf 03022007 31.jpg with File:Jezersko-solčavska ovca Molička planina 1.jpg, for the following reasons:

  • it shows the Jezersko-Solčava sheep in its original environment (the region of Solčava)
  • it shows the entire animal
  • the image has been recognised as a quality image in Commons.

Actually, you replaced it twice (WP:BRD is good reading, edit-warring is unproductive seven days a week). The picture you put as lead image does not show clearly the principal characteristic of the breed, the black surround of the eyes and black lower part of the ear. We are fortunate to have a image that does (for once) depict clearly those characteristics. I can't see any good reason not to use it here. Domestic animal breed names are capitalised in Wikipedia, regardless of local usage; the Slovene and Serbian breed names are capitalised in the sources that support their inclusion here. Actually, the lead image shows the principal characteristics quite well: the size of the animal, the legs, the colour and the convex head profile. "the black surround of the eyes and black lower part of the ear" are not the principal characteristics![1] I'd also like to see the page stating that "domestic animal breed names are capitalised in Wikipedia" and that the Slovene names are actually not capitalised in the relevant sources, which are the dictionaries of the Slovene language (see e.g. [2]). Your claim in the edit summary that the "Dictionary of Slovene Standard Language" could be non-notable shows simply that you actually did no good research prior to editing here. I see your revert of me without discussing the issue here with me first and see your mentioning of "WP:BRD is good reading, edit-warring is unproductive seven days a week" as a nice example of hypocrisy. --Eleassar my talk 06:06, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
