Issues at article start
editThe article still has rough edges but this should be good enough for a start. Some obvious things that need work:
- Further Reading and External Links links need polishing
- No photo
- No middle name: did he have one, for that matter? It might be necessary to get his (UK) birth or baptismal records
- Some categories that might or might not be added: see the comment at the end. I'll pull that into this page in a bit
- No WikiData, no WikiData linkage: I don't think Comerford has a WikiData page at all yet (he's certainly not James W. Comerford on WikiData). This is a bit surprising as he has a Trove and an ASIO entry, but there it is
- Should it be James or Jim Comerford? There's no doubt that James was his legal name, but it seems everyone consistently favoured 'Jim'
- The article needs a lot more detail about the most notable episodes in his life: his active role in the controversy right after the Rothbury Riot, and his significant influenence in the 1949 Coal Strike and the Labor Party split. Barbara Heaton's bio is the obvious starting point for this
- Australian norms of spelling etc.: feel free to crack on with imposing these as you wish
Should title be James Comerford instead?
editActually I will give this one its own topic as it's obviously best if any move takes place as early as possible. There's no doubt that James was Comerford's legal first name, but it seems everyone consistently favoured 'Jim'. I have already created James Comerford, as a redirect to this page. - WP:NICKNAME seems to suggest that Jim Comerford is the correct choice. But there's another catch: there's another "James (Jim) Comerford" in the Dictionary of Irish Biography. Is it better to move to Jim Comerford (trade unionist) now or wait until the Irish nationalist and judge has his own entry? RW Dutton (talk) 13:15, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
