Neutrality and information removal dispute
editThere is an ongoing disagreement about the neutrality and content of this article. I am documenting it here for discussion.
I have initiated multiple edits to this article as part of a good faith effort to ensure the factual accuracy and neutral point of view of all Wikipedia content. These edits have been reverted, saying that they I am removing verifiably true information and vandalizing the page. None of the information I have removed has ever been verified through citations and (in my opinion) any content that I have removed has been to improve tone. My first round of revisions were supported by EasyAsPai but subsequent revisions have been reverted and left as such.
I believe my edits improve the overall neutral tone of the article, per WP:NPOV and highlight opportunities to verify claims rather than indiscriminately removing it per WP:BLP. I will also note that this article has been flagged for WP:COI and a recent edit by Blottski (who acknowledged a connection to the subject in their first edit) leads me to believe that not all edits to this article are in good faith. I will leave this article be for a few days in hopes of generating discussion before moving forward.

- It is of course admirable to make an effort to ensure factual accuracy and a neutral point of view on Wikipedia content. However, your corrections in this particular entry have inserted factual errors, defeating your intent. For example, one correction makes Sikora a director of "Slint," categorizing it as a feature movie, when Slint is not a movie but a band https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slint. You removed Sikora's movie "My Charbroiled Burger with Brewer." https://chicagoreader.com/music/chicago-filmmaker-jim-sikora-screens-a-rarely-seen-love-letter-to-saccharine-trust/, which can be verified by multiple sources and had to be put back in. You removed the band "Tar" from the list of bands for which he did videos (see previous citation). You removed the reference to the Munich International Film Festival, (see: https://www.filmfest-muenchen.de/de/festival/filmarchiv/film/?id=55&f=-7). You have repeatedly objected to the idea that Sikora was a pioneer in DV technology, which is backed up here https://reelchicago.com/article/sikoras-pioneering-digital-feature-elgin-rock-band-plays-film-center/. The way you worded your corrections, it came across like Sikora only did DV filmmaking, which is obviously not true from other citations. The Hippocratic oath entreats doctors to "first, do no harm." I'm sure you agree that an editor should take the same approach. Ringleader77 (talk) 23:47, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'll address these points one by one, but broadly I object to you reverting entire edits that I've made when you disagree with one or two points in them. It removes content that you object to at the cost of also removing worthwhile edits.
- My February 1 edit rewrote a sentence in the lead to inaccurately list Slint as a film that Sikora directed and removed My Charbroiled Burger with Brewer. This is correct. In my effort to remove the laundry list of names per WP:NOTINHERITED, I accidentally removed the film and kept the band. It was an honest mistake and I'm glad to see that this was corrected.
- I was the one who added Tar in my March 6 edit because it was information verified by an outside source. Your revert of my edit is what removed that information.
- I did remove the reference to the Munich International Film Festival because the citation associated it did not verify that his films showed there. I would fully support you adding that citation so that the information in this article is verifiable.
- I do object to the idea that Sikora is a pioneer in DV technology. "Pioneer" is a strong and subjective claim and I do not think one article describing one of his films as pioneering but that he, "could have had one of the first digital features ever released" justifies the use of the term. I would suggest we seek a third opinion on this point because I don't think we're going to reach an agreement on it.
- I do not think either of my rewrites, "Jim Sikora is a Chicago based American film director, writer, and producer and focusing in DV filmmaking." (February 1) or "Jim Sikora is a Chicago based American film director, writer, producer, and DV filmmaker." (March 6) suggests that he only did DV filmmaking. Again, if we cannot come to an agreement on this point, I think we should seek an outside opinion.
- I notice that this is the only article that you've made edits to-- do you know Sikora personally?

- I corrected the Tar error and thank you. It is not always easy to see what's been added and what's been taken away. If you don't like the use of "pioneer" - would you object to "an earlier user of" or something of that nature? They mean the same thing, but perhaps "pioneer" sounds puffier in your opinion. - "Early user of" sounds good to me and I've edited the article to incorporate that phrase. Crucially, if you're going to add content it must be cited to a reliable source, or it is subject to removal. In that vein, I added the citations for Tar and the Munich Film Festival.
- To reiterate my earlier question, do you know Sikora personally?
