Age
editCurrently in the "Early Life" section. It says "In 1997, when he was 16 he studied at the University of Salford's School of Media, Music and Performance". This doesn't align with his age. Article says he was born in 1978, which would have made him turn 19 in 1997. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.5.165.253 (talk) 23:49, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- I think we should list both dates in the intro. There is significant evidence that he was born in 1978 (i.e. articles that say he was 33 in August 2011). Plus, his birth certificate says 1978, so of course from a factual point of view that's the date. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 16:29, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Kotomijp (talk) 12:26, 10 July 2012 (UTC)I've following his career since early 2007.And I read many articles about him for ONE DAY promotion last year. Actually many articles about him mentioned his age 30 in August 2011.Especially reliable source like Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/17/one-day-interview_n_928902.html ,The Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/day-of-reckoning-the-film-version-of-bestselling-novel-one-day-is-set-to-make-a-big-star-of-jim-sturgess-2339382.html, The Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/starsandstories/8670243/One-Day-Jim-Sturgess-interview.html say he was 30.The sites like Cantonrep.com and Shortlist.com...to be honest I've never heard these sites before...say he was 33,but I'm not sure if these sites are reliable or not as for the film news/info and it's my guessing though probably their writers only read Sturgess's IMDb page and wrote the article. As long as I know, most sites(and for the record, also most movie sites in here Japan) list his birth of year "1981".Additionally he also became a member of the National Youth Music Theatre from 1993 until 1995(twelve ~fourteen). During this period of time,he starred the film called "The Browning Version".http://jimsturgessonline.com/images/displayimage.php?album=83&pos=4 (for the record, also here is some short clip for the film. http://jimsturgessvideo.com/play.php?vid=185 He appears in some scene.Imho,he definitely looks like a pre-pubescent 13 year old, not a 15 or 16 year old.)
And like eraly life section says "He spent most of his youth skateboarding around his local car parks and started his first band as early as 15 years old where they would rehearse in the garage of his Friend's Dad's house."And I read several articles which he says like he was crazy for the band thing, not for NYMT thing anymore.
I'm sure every celebrity has uncertain info on the internet. And it's no exception for Jim Sturgess.I know some info say his birth year is 1978.But as for his birth year being 1978, I can’t find any link of the source which clarify this info on the internet (and also no link for reliable or official site is posted on his Wiki page) or any official site comfirmed his graduate year from the University on the internet. And any anonymous user can update IMDb pages and unlike Wiki, they don’t show the any back up link/source on their page.So I'm not sure at least as for actors personal info how reliable their info are.
Because of all above things,I think we should list 1981 as his birth year.I think one's data of birth should be treated carefully, esp.it is very important thing for the actors/actresses.)And he comfirmed it by himself.
Sorry for the long post and for my poor English.
I agree with the editor above me. There are many more reliable sources suggesting that he was born in 1981 than 1978. He has specifically said that he was born in 1981 to clarify the confusion, and I find it unlikely that someone would forget what year that they were born in, and there is no reason for him to lie about. Additionally, none of the sources that I have seen actually say the year 1978, just how old he is at that time. I have never seen an article on Wikipedia before that includes two years of birth. JDDJS (talk) 14:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Look, the dude was born in 1978. There is no question about it. Birth records don't lie. I am willing, however, to list both dates in the article to amuse people who think he was born in 1981. That's the only concession I can make. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:34, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- P.S., if you wish, I can also agree to not list any birth year in the article at all. But the idea of putting in 1981 and nothing else, no. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:35, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Where is his birth record? It is not included in the references for 1978. JDDJS (talk) 23:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know if you have access to ancestry.com or other websites that carry British Birth Records. His birth, James Anthony S Sturgess, was registered in the period of April-May-June 1978, meaning he was born during or slightly before that time (but not three years after). The birth of his brother, William Robert S. Sturgess, was registered in Jan-Feb-Mar 1976. His sister, Victoria Jane S. Sturgess, in Jan-Feb-Mar 1983. His parents, Peter J. S. Sturgess and Jane O. Martin, were registered as married in Apr-May-Jun 1973. There is no other James Sturgess who could possibly be him, especially not with those middle names, and especially not with the same two siblings (listed as "Will" and "Tia" on most fan sites). Kotomijp (talk) 15:51, 12 July 2012 (UTC)We are trying to update the very important personal info of total stranger to us.So I just would like you to know more about him and would like you not to judge it by only one thing.People are not just the record on the paper, people have life and personality.I'm sorry,my English is very poor, but could you please read this post?
As much as I respect your opinion, but I'm not sure about Jim Sturgess's birth year being 1978.I even found it's bit strange.First of all,as As JDDJS says "the far greater number of reliable sources that suggest 81 over 78".I've been following his career very closely since Jan. 2007,since when almost no one knew him (his break film,"Across the Universe" was released on Sep.2007 in US..so it's only bit earlier, but still I could read many things about him on the internet or magazines than most people. So if he was really born in 1978、I'm sure many things would have indicated that. But not much...although we got two links from the sites called CantonRep.com and ShortList.com(which honestly I never heard of before).More I learned about him, more I believe he was born in 1981.It's not like he suddenly insists he was born in 1981 recently.Maybe he changed his birth year when he was mid-20s? But I think it's unlikely. It's odd.He is an actor, not an actress and has younger looks than his actual age.And it's not like he had many, many bad years as an actor.Of course,as every actor,he had a period of obscurity. But 2005, he got a lead role for studio(Sony) film, not indie film.(And from what I read, agewise I think he is more close to his sister than his brother)
As I wrote in my previous post,He was a member of National Youth Music Theatre from 1992 or 1993(some page says so) to 1995.(He is mentiond as James Sturgess) http://www.nymt.org.uk/history/alumni.html And during this period of time,he starred in The "The Browning Version(1994)".Here are pictures and films short clip which he appears in some scene. http://jimsturgessonline.com/images/displayimage.php?album=83&pos=4 http://jimsturgessvideo.com/play.php?vid=185 I saw picture and then saw video.Imho,he definitely looks like a pre-pubescent 12,13 year old, not a 15 or 16 year old.If he was born in 1978,at that moment he was like 15、16.But I found it really strage after saw the video.Honestly it's like "No way he was 15,16".
He says about his teen like this in his interview with Inteview Magazine."As a kid I did a bit of acting and then decided I don’t want to do thatーyou know, I was young,a 15-year-old,hanging out with my freinds and playing in the band in the garage." At age like 12 and at age 15 are very different at any level as kid.(I can image what is like when he was mid-teen.I'm sure for him playing in the band was very cool thing to do and MYNT thing was not cool anymore at that moment.)
Sorry,I canr explain myself in English. My point is..As I said before,I've been read/heard/seen many things about him for over five years(there are still a lot of things I want to mention, but it will be really long post,so I don't) and...it's just my opinion though...I think he was born in 1981.So I'm not sure what to say about the info from ancestry.com.If his birth year is 1978,I would just wonder..."then why more things which indicate that showed up? A lot of things indicate his birth year is 1981.It would never happened" I googled this site.Ancestry.com says "Discover your family history and start your family tree. Try free and access billions of genealogy records including Census, SSDI & Military records."I'm sure there are numerous records and there are possibility they got some records wrong as other non-governmental database. It's just my guessing though.
Don’t get me wrong. It's not like I try to defend my favorite actor.I care his talent, but I don't care when he was born.(He is such a nice, smart and very talented person.)And every celebrity has many uncertain info and it's no exception for him.So I just try to be objective as possible as I can.But there are a lot of fact which I can’t ignore. And my most point is that one's birth of data is very important personal info for everyone.I do think it should be treated carefully. It should be updated by reliable source which has backup link. The truth is that still there is no actual link back up 1978 info. And it's internet. No offence, but for whatever reason, the comment from anonymous user which doesn’t have any link back up for should not be treated as "proof" for anything. But at least you are fair enough to list both info,I will keep it.(But unfortunately if no strong evidence(link from reliable source) will be provided in Wiki in the future, probably I will have to do something)
Sorry for the long post and for my poor English — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kotomijp (talk • contribs) 15:47, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Actors sometimes do not correctly state their birth year. This happens often and Talk:Jessica Chastain is a terrific recent example (born 1977, not 1981 - Chastain was, I mean). By the way, the University of Salford's website lists him as having graduated in 1999, which fits with his 1978 birth date. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 17:25, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Close to the Enemy
editIt has just been confirmed that Jim Sturgess is currently giving the worst television performance of the year in Stephen Poliakoff's 'Close to the Enemy'. What IS he trying to do? It's excrutiating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickie 55 (talk • contribs) 21:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Non-encyclopedic tone issues
editBecause of the notification on encyclopedic tone, I made a pass just now to edit the language. I don't want to remove the notification; I feel this should be checked by someone else. Also, I think there are facts in this article that need a link to a source. I didn't address that. [[Susanzwitter (talk) 13:09, 5 May 2018 (UTC)]]

in the hope that it would enable him to continue his music and take part in the Manchester music scene. In Greater Manchester, he fell in with a group of aspiring actors and film makers, and his acting efforts began to become productive. He started to write and perform his own short films and plays. While performing a one-man show 'BUZZIN', based on his performance poetry, Jim was discovered by an acting agent.
He was originally set to voice Soren's brother Kludd, one of the main antagonists, but the part went to Ryan Kwanten.
