Include all Joes?

edit

is it really nessicary of possible to list all known fictional and real joes? why do those sections exist?

Good point. --Suffocation90 08:41, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

This list should serve only to disambiguate things and people which are simply known as Joe. For example, Joe (film), Uncle Joe and Joe 1. I think the other people called Joe, who have surnames, should be removed before this list gets very long. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:56, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
You are probably right according to WP policy, however I think the list is interesting and doesn't do any harm. Steve Dufour 22:36, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't do any harm, but that's really not a good criteria for deciding what should be in Wikipedia. I've edited the page to include only things and people who are simply known as Joe, as per zzuuzz's suggestion. This is the same rule used for John, and should be used for pages for first names. --74.209.0.29 22:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nice work, O Nameless One, I had it on my list to clean up, but you got there first. I had planned to move those with surnames to a new article "Joe (given name)", however, instead of simply deep-sixing them. This would satisfy those who find such a listing interesting, and also provide an outlet for those who feel compelled to add names, instead of having them add such clutter here; in fact, I think I will do so. I generally don't award barnstars to unregistered editors, so please sign up and continue the good work. Chris the speller 20:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just forgot to log in when I made the edits. --Rumblegoose 02:44, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Summary: People with the first name Joe, who are not commonly known simply as "Joe", should not be listed here. Instead, see the list at Joe (given name) as a possible place to include them (thanks to Chris the speller). SlackerMom (talk) 13:04, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Theory

edit

Sorry for the orginal research, but I have been thinking about this and it seems to me that the reason for "Joe" being the name of an average, maybe working class, person comes from two related things. The first is that St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, is often seen as an example of humility as well as industry, responsibility and other working class virtues. The second is that Joseph (or Jose) is a popular given name among Roman Catholics, and in England and America Catholics have historically been more often members of the working class. So the nickname "Joe" brings up the image of a humble, hard working man, an "average Joe" in other words. Steve Dufour 22:34, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Joe Mama - Term used in teen/child talk, Someone may ask who Joe is, Then another one responds with Joe Mama. Mrgogo88 (talk) 15:43, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not done: There's no article on that subject; Joe mama is a redirect to Maternal insult. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:58, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

– Seems to me like the name is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 21:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
