Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented.
Hello! On behalf of Airbnb and as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I am submitting a request to update the subject's title. Currently, the article says Gebbia is a co-founder and chief product officer; according to Airbnb's website, Gebbia serves as "Co-founder, Chairman of Samara and Airbnb.org".
If Airbnb's website is insufficient sourcing, Bloomberg provides a similar title, noting he is a co-founder of Airbnb and chairman of Samara & Airbnb.org. The Atlanta Business Chronicle also says, "Gebbia is chairman of Samara Airbnb, ... and Airbnb.org, an independent nonprofit ...", if this source is preferred.
I don't think this request is controversial, but I don't edit article directly given my conflict of interest. I'm hoping a volunteer community member can review this request and update the infobox and introduction on my behalf. Thanks you! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:06, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
While I belive this request has substance, I am inclined on declining it for now due to insufficient sourcing and the fact that a simple Google search shows he is still the CPO. Also, changing the title would require describing Samara and Airbnb.org, which I think should be described on the main Airbnb article, not this one. I will wait a few hours and if I don't see any responses from other non-COI editors. I will formally decline the request for the reasons explained above. @Quetstar: Thanks for reviewing. Can you clarify how sourcing is insufficient? I've provided the company's website, his Bloomberg profile, as well as secondary news coverage verifying the claim. The Atlanta Business Chronicle (December 2020) says, "Gebbia is chairman of Samara Airbnb, the company’s experimental product development team, and Airbnb.org, an independent nonprofit that launched this year to helps people share housing and resources during crises." MassLive.com also lists his title as "Airbnb co-founder and chairman of Samara and Airbnb.org". Ditto this White House press release. Can you explain why his roles should not be up to date on Wikipedia? I would support adding descriptions of Samara and Airbnb.org, as well as leaving mention of his former role (CPO) if editors prefer. I'm just seeking to make the article accurate. Partly done: I have updated his title. However, I have kept his CPO role in his title because there is no source on when he transitioned out of it, as well as the fact that the Airbnb article still says he is the CPO. @Quetstar: Thanks for adding mention of the current roles. @Edwardx: I see you've made a subsequent edit to remove these titles from the infobox. Perhaps the subject is "known for" co-founding and serving as CPO of Airbnb, but could his current roles be added to the "title" or "occupation" fields? @Edwardx and Quetstar: Hello again! I would like to try again to correct the article's text. Joe Gebbia is not the CPO; sources clearly state his title and Airbnb does not currently have a CPO, which means the current article is inaccurate and misleading. This Time article is an example of his title being used in recent secondary coverage and this SEC form lists his position as "Chairman of Samara and Airbnb.org, Co-Founder, and Director".
