Cub or Yankee.
editAll right. Is a a Cub or a Yankee?
For Cub, he's a native Illinois person; played more years for Chicago.
For Yankee, his New York team had a spot light, he won a World Series and caught a perfect game. He works for YES.
Mghabmw 03:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
He's also part of Wikipedia project Yankee. Though part of Project Chicago, that tends to lean more for people from the city.
Mghabmw 03:12, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
He played two separate stints for the Cubs and played more years with the Cubs. I think it is a no-brainer. The fact that he works for YES is immaterial - he will be managing somewhere else next year anyway.Pascack 16:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Then why are you worried about changing it to Chicago colors. I like it not having any colors then. BTW, he already has turned down managing positions. And I guess winning 3 world series is immaterial too. 208.168.227.147 17:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
If he played 5+ years on the Yankees then maybe the titles would mean more, but he was a complementary players on those teams (he only started on the 1996 champions) and he played twice as many years, in two separate stints, for the Cubs. I can't see how you can argue 3 years over 6 years.Pascack 18:54, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Something about a Mets fan from the Mount Vernon area that I just don't trust. Somehow I think you'd still go Cubs colors even if he played more time in NY. Mghabmw 03:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
He is clearly a Yankee in my mind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BornBrightSmart (talk • contribs) 23:04, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Er?
editI know this is a stupid question, but why is this protected?
Because some idiot kept trying to put Yankees colors in his info box even though he played twice as many years for the Cubs. Now the page is protected because of the three-revert rule. He was clearly most reflective as a Cub, it's stupid.
- Reflective as a Cub? You're so deep... Mghabmw 03:03, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
"16:39, 22 June 2007 Pascack (Talk | contribs) (13,624 bytes) (undid revision by Yankees10, I agree - he deserves to be shown as a Padre. Carter has worked with the Mets for the past 10 yrs and Winfield is still with the Padres now.) (undo)"
- What about this... Winfield played two more years in NY, was an all star 4 more times in NY than San Diego, all but 2 of his gold gloves, all but one of silver sluggers (none in San Diego).
- But he should be ANYTHING as a Yankee. Mghabmw 03:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Team colors
editI think it is also important to remember that besides playing many more years in Chicago, he had his best years as a Cub. His only All-Star selection was in 2002 for the Cubs. Joeidaho 17:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah pascack? nice alternate name. Mghabmw 19:12, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I love Girardi, and I hope someday he's hired as manager for the Cubs, but the All-Star selection wasn't all that special. Girardi was chosen to the All-Star game (2000, not 2002) only after Mike Piazza suffered a concussion three days before the game, Javy López turned down the spot to head home to Puerto Rico, AND Todd Hundley turned down the spot due to a sickness in his family. The Chicago Sun-Times has the story here. Girardi ended up being the only position player (on either team, I believe) not to get into the game that year. Jpers36 17:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Your credibility only goes down after editing using alternate names, your IP, and campaigning for the use of non-Yankee colors on players that met your criterion TO wear Yankee colors, i.e., Dave Winfield played longer in NY than SD, and changing Don Mattingly's colors. The colors should stay neutral until settled.
Mghabmw 19:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
you should talk, it is obvious that 208.168.252.236 = Mghabmw. Pot calling the kettle black there. 192.234.99.1 19:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm not trying to hide, I just didn't logged in. I don't have an alternate name though. Mghabmw 21:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I simply think he had a more accomplished career in NY, that's it. Mghabmw 17:17, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Attempt to diffuse this
editI suggest that everyone involved in this edit war take a step back and lay off the article for a while before the 3RR blocks start being given out (if it's not too late). As a neutral party, I'm going to take out the work "primarily" as it seems non-NPOV, (and he played 578 games for the Cubs and 878 for other teams, I just added it up), but leave the colors as is. Of course, if someone reverts me, I won't revert back, but it may move you closer to a block if you've made multiple reversions in the past 24 hours. Try and decide how important this really is. CitiCat ♫ 23:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Mghabmw already reverted you but I undid his change and went back to your's as I think you are trying to be neutral here.192.234.99.1 15:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I didn't revert him, I simply removed the colors to be neutral. His change was simply to revert what you've written. Mghabmw 17:08, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
The colors look a bit Red Sox'ish. Mghabmw 05:58, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Colors
editAny debate over what colors should be on this profile is over now - it's, of course, the Yankees, considering he's now a member (once again) of the New York Yankees. Thus, they must be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.108.94.35 (talk) 17:39, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
about fuckin time the colors have been changed. suck on that cubs fans.

In St. Louis?
editI believe that the incident between Loria and Girardi occurred at a Dodger's game in Dolphin Stadium, not at St. Louis. I recall that Vanover was calling VERY poorly against the Marlins, and that Loria started mouthing off. Girardi had been tossed the day before, and wanted to avoid further negative Ump interaction, even though Vanover was deserving of it. He should have been more respectful of Loria in asking him to tone it down, but was more direct. However, I do not have a link handy, so I will not change it until I find a link... Shut the fuck/f***/freak up
editThis quote has gone back and forth between "shut the fuck up" and "shut the f*** up" a number of times, and now just recently someone changed it to "shut the freak up." My feeling is that there's no reason to censor anything unless it's quoted from a source which is censored. But there's certainly no reason to ever actually change the words people have said, is there?
Having said all of that, can someone find a good source for the actual quote (partly so I can know that Girardi didn't actually say 'shut the freak up')? --Greybean (talk) 04:39, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I've edited the details regarding that incident because of the use of profanity by Girardi was a publicity concoction by the Marlins front office. People who have known him for decades say they've never heard him curse let alone drop the F bomb. I have appropriately sourced and cited all information regarding this incident. 70.134.105.125 (talk) 02:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)tjrover
Succession boxes / List boxes
editWhy don't the succession boxes and list boxes (e.g., New York Yankees managers, Florida Marlins managers) show up on the page? I look in the edit file and it appears they should, but I can't figure out what is wrong to make the edit myself. Sorry, I tried. Can someone else help? — Michael J 22:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Never mind. I didn't realize they were all hidden under one box. I wonder why that isn't so on other pages. Oh well. Sorry for the trouble. — Michael J 22:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- It should be whenever there are enough boxes that it's beneficial for the appearance of the article. --Muboshgu (talk) 12:03, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Number 28
editHe is switching to number 28. http://sportsbybrooks.com/oh-hell-nah-joe-girardi-ready-to-switch-to-28-26840 161.185.151.150 (talk) 14:37, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- First off, that source is some sort of blog, and not reliable. Second, the article it cites, which is reliable, says the switch is "likely", meaning it hasn't happened, and though probable, might not happen. We won't change his humber to #28 until it's verified.--Muboshgu (talk) 18:19, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Cereal Story
editFrom Miami Herald Wire Services, printed in the Miami Herald of Sunday, May 27, 2012: According to the story, When Girardi was a kid, about eight years old, in the state of Illinois, a freight train derailed behind the farm of Girardi's maternal grandparents. The train spilled a load of boxes of Cap'n Crunch, and Girardi and his four siblings ate Cap'n Crunch cereal for a year. According to Girardi, he and his siblings usually ate sugary cereals only on weekends. The accidental bonanza of Cap'n Crunch was eaten during weekdays, according to the article. I attempted to research this incident. My research yields the following train derailment: Thirty railcars of an L&N freight train derailed in the small village of Addieville, IL June 15, 1973. Maybe the Cap'n Crunch incident can be added to the Joe Girardi Wikipedia article? If Girardi sees this, its time for you to do the right thing, Joe. Baseball's been good to Joe. He has the means to pay for the Cap'n Crunch. Marc S., Dania Florida 74.166.156.250 (talk) 00:46, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
I have Jetters replacement
editThere is a youngman named Garrett Ross Easterling who attends the University of Charleston in WV. All his life he has dreamed of becoming a pro baseball player. He has really played hard and has stayed a very upstanding person. Analyst
editAdded that he’s still working as an analyst for Marquee in addition to YES… he’s doing color commentary for the Cubs game right now on Marquee and he’s still on Marquee’s site. He must have a deal where he can do both. Splent2112 (talk) 00:49, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
