There is a slight problem here, as for example Google locates a "Johann Aegidius Bach" - but that might simply mean that the person who wrote *that* article got it wrong.

There are several articles which have the spelling "Aegidus" as here, and it's possible that several spellings were actually used at the time.

If someone can come up with a definite answer that's OK by me, but in the meantime I've reverted to the orginal. -- David Martland 21:59, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)

This isn't definitive, but the Concise Grove gives "Aegidius". As you say, it's perfectly possible both were used in his day, but "Aegidius" looks more common to me. In any case, I'll make a redirect from Johann Aegidius Bach, and if we decide to move the article there later, we can. --Camembert
Philipp Spitta's 19th century biography of J.S. Bach gives the name as Johann Aegidius (also Ægidius) (vol. I, p. 23 and 174, Dover ed., 1951 reprint of 1889 ed.)--FeanorStar7 (talk) 08:47, 2 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
