editTinctoris was a pupil of Guillaume Dufay; I think this deserves a mention.
Notable Writings
editI thought this list of some of his writings might be useful. What do you think? --MarkBuckles 18:54, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- Good addition! Thank you! We could probably put in a list of his musical works as well (there's not that many) Antandrus (talk) 19:55, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Works list
editIs it kosher to just copy this straight out of Grove? There's 14 sacred and 10 secular works listed. I'm not sure what the "M" refers to - it is a catalogue? --MarkBuckles 21:55, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- I usually type them in myself, translating when necessary, and making changes like "(3 voices)" instead of "3vv", leaving out their comments, and adding some of my own, and changing the order, e.g. putting lost works separate or attributed works separate. "M" is the opera omnia edition in Corpus mensurabilis musicae 1976 ed. Melin (it's given at the top of the list). (I never copy straight from Grove.) Antandrus (talk) 23:42, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Flemish?
editIt seems highly doubtful that Tinctoris was "Flemish", if the term denotes Dutch speaking people. He probably was born in Braine-l'Alleud, now in French-speaking Belgium; he spent most of his life in France; and his latin syntax does resemble French.

- The correction made by 80.126.51.166 after my remark above, calling Tinctoris "a Netherlandish composer", does not really solve the problem, because it could too easily be thought that "Netherlandish" people are from the Netherlands (i.e. Dutch). I made a modification which, I hope, will be satisfying (if such a problem can ever be solved, considering modern Belgian sensibilities). Tinctoris also appears as sole name in the Category "Flemish music theorists", which I think should be changed to "Belgian music theorists" and should include other people (e.g. Fétis). I am not sure to be able -- or to be allowed -- to change that. Hucbald.SaintAmand (talk) 16:00, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
