I'm consulting a source on the story, and it seems to contradict several points as presented. Source is here.
Key points of difference:
- Church was the Anglican cathedral, not St. Paul's
- No mention of encounter with police, just mention of general disappointment in how the clergy and lay people were participating in the experience
