This Wikipedia article states that John Appleby "invented and patented a manual magazine feed breech loading needle gun," which was later sold for 500 dollars. The article goes on to state that the weapon/patent was then used extensively by the Prussian Army. The Needle gun has an extensive history before John Appleby's patent, though, with dates going as far back to 1808. The Needle Gun was first produced in 1838 and first saw utilizing from 1848-49 during the German Revolt. Are there more sources solidifying John Appleby's role in the development of the Needle Gun?
