This information is quite accurate about John Burke. Not over the top at all. He is part of several national organisations and continues to serve the Wellington region on three elected bodies, overseeing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of assets. [somebody sometime in May 2009]

An unregistered editor has repeatedly removed sourced content without explanation. I shall restore the info if this should happen again. The right thing is to discuss the issue on this talk page first. If there's something not right with the content, then please bring this up - this is the right forum for it. Schwede66 08:43, 30 November 2010 (UTC) Words political involvement were not removed accidentally. The page has been modified to match Another former Mayor Barry Curtis' page. Words are redundant in new format.Reply

There seems to be an obsession by User:Schwede66 in respect of an insistence to retain details of the Greater Wellington Regional Council 2010 elections in respect of Mr Burke. I don't understand this. Mr Burke has faced every local election since 1971. Should his site include details of all these elections? Of course not. That would be absurd. I believe there should be as much detail on the site as is likely to be of interest in say 20 years time. If this is to include details of of all elections that Mr Burke has faced then we better get busy because there is a good deal more content to be added to the site.
I would appreciate if the discussion could now commence please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aardean (talkcontribs) 04:17, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nice to finally have some communication about this, Aardean. If Burke has stood in every local election since 1971, and there are sources for that, then this should be mentioned. It can be brief and concise, but it certainly does belong to a biography of a person. There's of course not always a general consensus on what should be in and what should be out, but if that was to occur, then the way to resolve this is to discuss it on the article's talk page, as we are doing right now.
Wikipedia is a labyrinth of rules and conventions, and I'm most happy to help out. Just contact me through my talk page. Alternatively, the New Zealand politics talk page might be another suitable place for seeking advice. Schwede66 23:22, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Content moved here from Schwede66's talk page As requested by you I am comment on the contribution you have made to the John Brian Burke page. My alteration to your work has been described by someone as vandalism but I see your work in this light. I find your addition after the 2010 local body elections somewhat academic and lacking in any real understanding of what content would normally be expected here in NZ where I understand you have migrated to. Burke has given 41 continuous public service to new Zealand and his service continues. Your alteration to his page highlights one election outcome. I believe this to be insensitive and ignorant. If it is justified to focus as you have on one election result then I believe you have a duty to research and give similar coverage to every other election that Burke has faced. Sir I honestly you don't know what you don't know. I trust I will have the courtesy of a reply. Aardean. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aardean (talkcontribs) 03:27, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

When I said above that you could contact me through my talk page for help, I was referring to help with Wikipedia rules. The right place to discuss the John Brian Burke content is this place, though. What you are talking about is imbalance in the article. I suggest that you add something to the article to address that imbalance, since you appear to be 'in the know'. If there aren't sources for your additions, then we can tag that content with 'citation needed'. That would be a much better process than the removal of content. You appear to be genuine in your approach and as such, I would be happy with defending this to other editors who may insist on sources having to be provided. And with regards to one of the issues that you have raised above, Wikipedia is a collaborative project; there's no such thing as anybody owning an article or having a duty of providing content. Mr Schwede66, I believe it is now time to change and to create a format similar to that of the former Mayor of Manakau Barry Curtis. Mr. Burke's missing out on the 2010 Wellington Regional Council is now 3 years later outdated. I propose to start the review next week. I would like to start by changing the heading from John Brian Burke to just John Burke and would appreciate your advice on this. When you say "changing the heading", are you referring to the article name? If so, can you confirm that he is commonly known as 'John Burke', and not 'John Brian Burke'? Schwede66 03:31, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
We cannot move the article to the title John Burke because there are many notable people with this name. The title needs to be unique, and on Wikipedia we often handle such matters by appending a disambiguating term to the name in parentheses. If you believe a title such as John Burke (mayor) would be more appropriate that the present use of a middle name, please explain why on this page.-gadfium 19:53, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response. I know John Burke personally and he has only ever been known as John Burke. To most people, calling him John Brian Burke on Wikipedia would be very confusing. I notice there are many many other John Burkes in Wikipedia and there is a simple process to follow to get to the particular John Burke one wishes to research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.73.92.242 (talk) 20:20, 31 October 2013 (UTC) Mr Schwede66, Thank you for helping me with the heading for John Burke (mayor) page. As mentioned I would now like to restructure the page along the lines of former Manakau Mayor Barry Curtis page. Incidentally Mr Burke continues in public office which I will identify. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aardean (talkcontribs) 04:28, 3 November 2013 (UTC) I have just removed the detailed reference to the Greater Wellington Regional Council because its detail does not now fit in appropriately with the pages new format. I trust this will be respected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aardean (talkcontribs) 03:39, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
