The prime function of Vodafone is as a cycling velodrome. There is a cycling track under the removeab le seating seen during the Australian open. It is reguarly used for cycling throughout the year. yet despite this, cycling is even mentioned in the article.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.28.45.101 (talk) 01:41, 11 February 2006

I fixed it. But hey, you could have, too -- that's the point of a wiki! pfctdayelise 10:34, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

WTF??

"The stadium has recently taken up inhabitance of the NBL" if I knew what this was supposed to mean I'd clean it up Albatross2147 03:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Until this recent move the venue was largely outside of the two weeks of the Australian Open tennis tournament. Ditto. --Angry mob mulls options 06:10, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Melbourne Multi Purpose VenueHisense Arena – If the current name is commonly used among Australian media and fans, then I'll drop my suggestion, but I don't think I've read it anywhere else. Relisted. BDD (talk) 23:49, 4 October 2012 (UTC) Khan_singh (talk) 20:26, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment If the sponsorship is sold to another company, it will be a simple matter to move the page. "Common name" is the standard, and this page is virtually the only source that uses "Melbourne Multi Purpose Venue." Khan_singh (talk) 23:51, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Comment: I've moved this article from Melbourne Multi Purpose Venue to Melbourne Park Multi Purpose Venue. Both names are probably equally valid, this name was also used during the Commonwealth Games, but at least the latter provides some specificity about the venue instead of an article title which seems absurdly generic. This change seems uncontroversial enough to me to bypass any discussion. Aspirex (talk) 00:18, 6 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sponsorship names

edit

Note to editors: As per previous discussion, please don't move the name of this article to a temporary sponsorship name. Thank you. Afterwriting (talk) 04:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Um, can you prove that outside of a sponsorship clash anyone actually uses the name the article is currently title? If not then it fails WP:COMMONNAME and must be moved. oknazevad (talk) 22:51, 11 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Netball since 1997?

edit

How was netball possibly played there in 1997 when the stadium opened in 2000? "The arena has been used for netball from 1997 for Melbourne Phoenix and Melbourne Kestrels games in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy." Tjej (talk) 09:35, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Melbourne Park Multi-Purpose VenueMelbourne Arena – The change of name to Melbourne Arena poses an interesting question. Should the title be changed? Wikipedia rarely embraces corporate article titles for stadiums, in this instance though the new name would appear to fit with WP:NAMINGCRITERIA. You can't get more recognizable than the city after which the arena is named, consistent with other Australian stadium titles on wikipedia which are mostly non-commercial. Given a few months, most people will likely become intimatley familiar with this name, as they were with Hisense until now and Vodafone before that. One thing that cannot be said is that the current title (Melbourne Park Multi-Purpose Venue) fits any of the criteria. It isn't recognizable, certainly not concise and is unlikley to be the name people will ever search for. Literally no one in Melbourne refers to this venue as the Melbourne Park Multi-Purpose Venue. There are also more google results for Melbourne Arena than the multi-purpose venue. Jono52795 (talk) 05:57, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
