He is frequently recognized as the father of modern acoustic string instruments.

That's laying it on a bit thick, isn't it? Certainly, he designed all three forms of resonator guitar (dobro, biscuit, and tricone). And, the article claims he made some improvements to the banjo. What else?

To my mind, this isn't nearly as significant as, for example, the contributions of Lloyd Loar. Is the resonator guitar really as significant as the archtop?

I doubt that any reputable authority would recognise any single person as the father of modern acoustic string instruments. I'm happy to be proved wrong. But the article as it stands doesn't IMO support this exalted title. Andrewa 19:20, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

In that nobody speaks, I've NPOVed and de-weaselled the introduction. The rest of the article is consistent to this new intro IMO. Andrewa 00:56, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

There are no references in this article, and most of the external links are dead. Can someone who knows about dobros fix this up? Thanks, —Anne Delong (talk) 11:27, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
