Only one
editHow can it have been the only eternal flame in tha world for a single person if Jackie O was inspired by that of the unknown soldier? --70.54.70.149 01:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC) Answer - memorials known as "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" usually have one unknown soldier in the tomb, rather than all that have ever been discovered. The one entombed unknown soldier, however, is a representative for all the unknown soldiers for a particular context, i.e, the United States or other country, or perhaps a particular campaign like World War II. In conclusion, the eternal flame that inspired Mrs. Kennedy was a memorial for more than one person. UNTZ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.54.98 (talk) 17:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- There are a lot of 'tomb of the un-known soldier' in the world. By the way, all that natural gas feeding a flame for decades, U.S. tax dollar at work?
What about
editthe times the flame has gone out? http://ididnotknowthatyesterday.blogspot.com/2006/03/how-does-eternal-flame-on-jfks-grave.html. That's the only source I can find right now, but I'm not about to add something from blogspot. Can anybody find something more reliable? 24.14.72.182 (talk) 06:25, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
First eternal flame for a single person
editAs hu:user:Burrows pointed out today at the talk page of this article's Hungarian translation, this flame cannot possibly be the first eternal flame for a single person, since another eternal flame has been burning since 1926 in Budapest, Hungary. That flame commemorates Count Lajos Batthyány, a prime minister of Hungary. [1]. – Alensha talk 22:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
why would a catholic school group put the flame out?

They were sprinkling holy water to bless JFK or something similar, but put too much water into the flame which extinguished it. 122.106.164.215 (talk) 05:16, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
It is because they were concerned about the emissions that were being released in the atmosphere causing global warming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.148.62.193 (talk) 07:28, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Coordinates
editThe geographical coordinates in this article seem to take one to a spot actually in the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial. PurpleChez (talk) 23:04, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- Fixed it. Longitude was off by about two minutes. PurpleChez (talk) 23:18, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Curbing spontaneous acts at the flame
editUser:216.130.237.18 keeps removing a single sentence, claiming it makes no sense. But I don't think the user is correctly reading that sentence. A spontaneous act (unplanned, not official) of respect (the leaving behind of military headgear) occurred at the site. It was curbed (stopped, prevented) by the Army. Why does that sentence not make any sense? It makes perfect sense. And that is exactly what happened. Additionally, one rule of good writing is to start each sentence with an introductory sentence. That introductory sentence works for the paragraph that follows. The sentence should not be removed. - Tim1965 (talk) 12:47, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
