I revised this somewhat, and noticed that his papers are at the Library of Virginia, though I do not know when I can visit. Oddly, though Goode defeated Platt in 1874, the library's catalog has an entry about a contested election for the seat in 1876. Moreover, I cannot read this note because of odd computer problems (again) which even when I adjust the zoom to actual size, make typing in this box less than a quarter size of type elsewhere on the page.Jweaver28 (talk) 14:20, 10 September 2020 (UTC) I could read this post-publication and corrected the typos. This article may be the one of the most important about the 1902 Virginia constitutional convention which led to the dominance of the Staples/Martin/Byrd organization, as well as the disenfranchisement of Black and poor white voters without any ratification referendum. I write because I cannot even confirm that Goode was elected to represent the town of Bedford per that article, and not Norfolk where he had lived for the past three decades and would die in a few years. Plus, the bios cited do not name his client list, though I suspect he represented railroads and shipping companies, hence the move from the small Piedmont town of Bedford to the Tidewater city of Norfolk.Jweaver28 (talk) 14:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
