The two entries indeed refer to the same Victorian scientist and should be merged. John Whitaker Hulke was by a training a surgeon but had diverse interests and established a second reputation for himself as an expert on British fossil reptiles, especially dinosaurs. The Royal Society of London published a detailed obituary, which supports this reassessment. |
