Lead of the Article and Personal Life
editThe lead of the article does a good job of providing neutral information. However, the lead is very lacking. The purpose of a lead is to provide a brief summary of the MOST IMPORTANT points of the article (most important things about John Jacob Abel). The following two pieces of information should be added to the lead: Abel was the first full-time professor of pharmacology in the United States and Abel developed an apparatus that is widely regarded as the forerunner of the artificial kidney. Due to the lack of information in Personal Life section, I think the Personal Life and Early Life sections should be merged into one. It should be specified that Abel entered the University of Michigan in 1876 and graduated in 1883. He took a three year gap in his college education due to financial circumstances. During the three year gap, he worked as principal and superintendent in the La Porte, Indiana Public Schools. At the Indiana Public Schools, Abel met Mary Hinman and married her in 1883. After he graduated in 1883, he spent a year in Newell Martins' Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. The last suggestion is to add a few pictures of John Abel or related images in the Personal Life section. The reader would certainly appreciate more images.
Background Information and Detail
editThere is not much background information/personal life information in this article. Readers are told of the accomplishments of John Jacob Abel but there is not much information on how he was able to reach those accomplishments. There is also very little personal life information which is often important in getting the full picture of what John Jacob Abel's life was like. The information that is present, about where he graduated etc, is written in a choppy manner and does not flow very well. The tone of the article is encyclopedic but the fluidity of the article should be improved. The sentences written in the review before mine are a great way to improve the flow and clarity of the article. As this page is edited and has more information I would suggest keeping personal like and early life separate sections but for now, I agree that they should be merged into one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmglaser47 (talk • contribs) 20:12, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
