There were allegations that Judge Jackson may have resigned the bench under pressure (something about compromising photos) and that his subsequent brief post as general counsel for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was offered as a way of clearing space on the bench for Judge Alston G. Dayton, who would be friendlier to the railroad interests. The Congressional testimony is lengthy and out of my area, but someone might want to look through it to see if there is anything substantive that should be added to his page and/or Dayton's.
