Prison record?
editHis last imprisonment was for the killing by bombing of nine pedestrians in a loyalist part of Belfast. He spent in all 15 years in prison, and was released under the Peace Process provisions. - Are you sure this is right? The only person I can think of that was responsible for a bombing that killed nine civilians and was released was Sean Kelly (Irish republican). There weren't that many bombings that killed nine people. Are there any more details on this, as it doesn't seem right? Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 12:38, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- After having seen the Irish Times article, it's coming out. That information is not in the article. For John Kelly to have been a councillor in 1997 he would have been out of prison pre-GFA, and I seriously doubt (especially considering he served two previous prison sentences) anyone convicted of killing nine people would have been released after serving less than 15 years pre-GFA. - Maybe you'd also like to find out what he was convicted of, before he was released under the GFA provisions?Red Hurley 13:50, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- He wasn't released under the GFA provisions as far as I know, as that was in 1998. He was a member of Magherafelt District Council from 1997, and elected as an MLA in 1998. You've confused John Kelly and Sean Kelly. I've already checked through the various books I have and can find no details of his other prison terms. - You're right, that was my mistake. But still leaves 7.5 years inside unexplained.Red Hurley 09:07, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- If I get time before my departure I'll try and look into it some more, but if the obituaries didn't go into details and neither do the many books I'm not holding out much hope. One Night In Hackney303 14:47, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
