I wanted to discuss my reverting of Spanneraol's deletion of the Dodgers calling up Lindsey as part of its 40-man roster expansion. While the 40-man roster is usually associated with the playoff race, all teams can and do expand their rosters in September; as that article discusses, noncontenders do so to evaluate and reward top minor leaguers. (The roster doesn't have to hit 40 players, either; my understanding is that the Dodgers didn't bring up as many players as they could have, in order to save money.) In any case, the use of the "40-man roster" phrase is cited. YLee (talk) 23:10, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your use of the term is incorrect.. Players arent brought up as "part of the 40 man roster".. they are brought up when rosters expand in september... but adding them to the 40 man is a different thing than september callups. The way you are using the term is incorrect. Spanneraol (talk) 01:59, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I now understand the distinction you are making--that the 40-man roster always exists--and agree that your new wording is more accurate. YLee (talk) 02:11, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
