Could use more context

"According to the New York Post, Melendez says Stern didn't pay him fairly and "resented me doing any outside work"; Stern replied saying that Melendez is a "no-talent ingrate" and he should stick to holding up the mug on "The Tonight Show".[7]"

Could use some more context...Howards first opinion about John's move was that he was happy for him and glad he got a job that payed him so much more. He didn't want to lose him, but said he would never stand in the way of some one moving up. He was instead pissed at Leno for not asking him before luring John off. He claimed he didnt blame John and had no hard feelings. It wasn't until John made the above comments that Howard claimed he was no-talent ingrate.

Wrong Info

Doesn't sound right to me. The intern John replaced also did the outrageous interviews, and before that Gary did them, and before that Howard did them. They became much bigger after John created his own "thing", but the interviews were certainly not premised on the idea that celebs would answer a stutterer. The interviews were premised on the idea that it would be funny to hear the response of celebs to off beat/outrageous questions - the stuttering came waay after the premise.

This info is incorrect- "Howard Stern fans claim that Melendez allegedly stole the Jaywalking segment from Stern's show (based on Melendez's stunts), but changed it into a less offensive style". Jaywalking actually started before Melendez began his tenure as announcer. Inconsistent

In that box at the top it says Melendez was born in New York City, and in the biographical info it says he was born in Massapequa. I'm not sure which is correct but I figured I should point this out. RSimione 16:38, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

This native New Yorker being in the Los Angeles-based Tonight Show program should be explained in the article.

This native New Yorker is proud to be a New Yorker, and he often shows his pride for being from New York City (such as displaying his drinking mug or his pennants for the New York Giants when they made their way to the 2008 Super Bowl). He also shows his love for the FDNY for their sacrifice during 9/11 by displaying another drinking mug with the FDNY logo at another show. Being Jay Leno's sidekick in the Tonight Show, which is located in Los Angeles, the fact that this guy is a New York City native, and being damn proud of it, should be explained in the article.
It also makes me wonder how compatible (or incompatible) he and Jay Leno really are...since Jay Leno is a native of Boston.

Recent reverts

It appears that Marine 69-71 has removed several revisions with no explanation. Although I have not thoroughly studied Marine 69-71's history, it is apparent from his page that he takes great pride in his heritage as a Puerto Rican and has edited a large number of articles related to others who share that heritage--including John Melendez.

In Melendez's case, Marine 69-71's participation has been limited to a series of reversions made without explanation. The reverted version consists of a sanitized version of Melendez's career, which has been marked with conflicts and missteps. Melendez has recently initiated a minor media feud with former associate Howard Stern, and his article will attract increased interest. It behooves everyone to allow accurate information to remain, even if it reflects negatively on Melendez.

I ask Marine 69-71 to explain his wholesale reversions. My suspicion, WHICH I HOPE TO SEE DISPROVED, is that Marine 69-71 is attempting to protect Melendez's entry for reasons other than accuracy.

• Nonsense, you "must" provide and cite a reliable and verifiable source when adding information as required by Wikipedia policy, otherwise said addition will be subject to removal. You cannot remove material which is backed up by a verifiable source, otherwise it can be considered as vandalism and you may be subject to being blocked from editing. I cleaned it up, but there is a lot of uncited text already. I left more sources in External links that might be used to expand the article, and I didn't delete any of the current text since none of it is defamatory and it probably can be cited. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Role on the Jay Leno Show

I have removed the following paragraph from the The Jay Leno Show section for the following reasons: it does not have any sourced material, it does not follow the neutral point of view, it is a personal opinion, and it has to many "who's?". "Longtime fans of Leno have complained that the new announcer on The Jay Leno Show, who does not appear on camera, is dull and fails to make the show opening an exciting one. Some of John's most loyal fans have grouped together on Facebook for a petition to get NBC to give John his old job back. Famous Puerto Ricans reference

I removed the link to the Puerto Ricans because it was basically saying that John was on the list. Perhaps he was at one time but he's not now and I don't think he ever met the critera.

Upon removing it the already out-of-place Puerto Rico portal label was moved to an even worse area of the page. Perhaps that can be put in a better place, im good with content not these types of things. Woods01 (talk) 00:53, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
