Dr. Plott mentions that Middleton had hands so huge, they measured 17 inches from Carpus to middle-finger, and his palms were 8 1/2 inches wide. It is further said that Middleton, known as the "Childe of Hale", was measured by his Lord, Sir Gilbert Ireland, where he was reputedly 9 feet 3 inches. Though his height may have been exaggerated--as also his hands may have been.

It is recorded that in 1768, a Parish Clerk, Mr. Bushell, exhumed the bones of Middleton in the Hale Churchyard. His thigh bones were so big, it is recorded that one femur measured from the ankles to the hip of an "average" man. Even allowing for conservative measure, this was certainly over 30 inches--Which would seem to indicate that Middleton was indeed over 9 feet tall.

Yet the Guinness Books say he was closer to 7 feet 9. Whatever the case, he was probably around 8 or 9 feet for sure.

Sigh... in wikipedia people will use their own beliefs to try to fix something that is an inference and cannot be proven, figures. "Probably this, probably that", this site has too much opinions in the articles.

Regardless, I think that we should change "...which was very inaccurate. If this measure is accurate, he would have been taller than Robert Wadlow. Middleton's true height was 7 feet 9 inches." To something like, "His height has not been verified, and some speculate that his actual height was closer to 7 feet 9 inches." However, "some speculate" is pretty lame... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.122.55.53 (talk) 02:31, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
