The story of John Murrell was grossly sensationalized by the press at the time. I'd like to suggest that anyone adding sources first reads Penick's historical biography and analysis, since he goes to great lengths to separate the hyperbole from the real story. This link[1] was in an old version, but didn't actually support the text. However, it has useful information about Murrel that might be useful for other editors.
