Move of Page to John Paintsil

edit

It's about time Wikipedia righted a wrong. To suggest that Ghanafa.org is incomplete or outdated shows prejudice and disrespect for a nationally instituted organization. The GFA might have its own fault, but spelling mistakes are not a part of it. PUMA made spelling mistakes in the names of several Ghanaian players during the World Cup. Most have been corrected (See history of the Richard Kingson page, for example).

To suggest that this article remains this way until Paintsil nullifies some incorrect UK travel document as suggested by user Osgoode lawyer below is akin to an argument that it is ok for me to call other users by a name they don't want to be called simply because that feels right in my mind.

Any objections?

His shirt says "Pantsil" at the 2010 World Cup. Seems pretty official to me. 24.19.56.18 (talk) 15:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

5 feet 8 inches is not 179cm. It's closer to 173cm.Roman Levin 08:48, 9 July 2006 (

There is no such person as John Pantsil. Check http://ghanafa.org/gfasite/national/readnews.php?contentid=136&ctid=7 or http://www.bbc.co.uk/football. FIFA's official match reports are notorious for their inaccuracies and spelling errors. Mjefm 22:19, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please see http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/ghana/default.stm #15 is John Pantsil. Ghanafa.org maybe incomplete or outdated.

GhanaFA.Org is the official site and is updated regularly and consistently uses the correct spelling of the name. The BBC page referenced above has since the citation above reverted the inaccuracy. Scaramang (talk) 01:29, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pantsil or Paintsil?

edit

Is his name Pantsil or Paintsil?

Paintsil

Pantsil

--  MATTYTHEWHITE  yap  stalk  16/8/06

West ham confirmed at a fans forum on the 23rd of August that his name is Paintsil, however he wears Pantsil on his shirt as the club incorrectly used this on his registration documents when signing him and are therefore required to use this name by the FA. Name

edit

His name is actually 'Paintsil' and I know that he wasn't too happy that his name has been spelt wrong by West Ham.

Paintsil

I know I am going to be asked for proof on this, which I haven't got, but I can tell you that on a Sky Sports News interview, the man himself confirmed that his name is John "Paintsil" and not "Pantsil" (the news actually had a good old joke about that afterwards). His shirt in the World Cup read "Paintsil". This is spelt correctly. His shirt at West Ham says "Pantsil". This is wrong. I'm sure he wouldn't lie about how his name is spelt on T.V. now would he? According to West Ham, all his documentation (birth certificate and the like) says "Pantsil". This, therefore, is his name. That he prefers "Paintsil" or thinks of himself as "Paintsil" is something else entirely. The name issue is noted, as it should be, but until he gets it legally changed, his name is Pantsil.  OzLawyer / talk  22:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm watching Ghana right now in the 2010 World Cup, and his shirt says "Pantsil". 24.19.56.18 (talk) 15:37, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Under External links there's a link called "The flag controversy" leading to [1]. This article is completly biased as it states: "The Hapoel Tel Aviv player, who was waving an Israeli flag he had hidden after Ghana's two goals were scored, was seen by Palestinians and Arabs as an insult to the just cause of the Palestine political issue".

I think this link should be removed and replaced with a more natural source link, Also the site the link is leading to is all ads and no content and I think it should be removed regardless of the above reason as it is un-professional. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.1.245.227 (talk) 12:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Pantsilflag.jpg

edit

Image:Pantsilflag.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
