Stories
editSurely it was John Small who found the Prince Regent's coach stranded in a ditch and having helped to extricate it was presented with some clothes. In return he sent a bat and balls to the Prince thus helping to popularise the game at court.
Or have I just made that up? johnnybriggs (talk) 09:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nearly right but you've merged two stories into one. The Hambledon players had a wagon which they used for travelling and this once overturned, the story being that Peter Stewart refused to disembark and somehow stayed inside while the vehicle was being righted again. Small received a violin from the Duke of Dorset and sent him two bats in return (this is in the text). --Jack | talk page 06:37, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
