Unsourced text marked for deletion
edit"Correction: The tombstone of Mayor John T. Browne in the City of Houston actually states that he served in Company A, 36 Texas Cavalry. Family history passed down that he was seriously wounded in a major battle of the Civil War, but recovered fully."
To Denniscollins53: Thanks for your interest in editing the John Thomas Browne page. I'm still learning the ropes on Wikipedia, but I would be happy to help you edit Wikipedia pages, or at least refer you to other editors and other resources. As your text stands, however, I would urge for its speedy deletion if it cannot properly sourced.

I hope I haven't overburdened you with Wikipedia policies. Speaking for myself, I found them somewhat intimidating when I started. I can't say I understand the policies completely, either. But I can introduce you to some of the basics. Please let me know how I can help.
As for the substantive matter of Browne's Confederate Army unit, the source cited, reference #1 by Damian Shiels, posted an image of what appears to be John T. Browne's parole from the Confederate Army, with a notation of "2nd Infty." In addition, Shiels cites John T. Browne's Confederate Army Record. Of course, it's possible that Browne served in Company A, Texas Cavalry as you say. Maybe he started the war in a Calvary unit, but ended the war as a foot soldier. Maybe there's a documentation error. These are just a few of the most obvious possibilities. Wikipedia policy states its purpose as creating encyclopedic content, so the statements need to be supported by authoritative and reliable secondary sources.

Rewrite with better sources
editPage watchers: When I expanded this article in 2014, this was among my first edits. I see some poor choices for sources, some mine, and some belonging to others. Unless there are any objections, I propose a rewrite of the article with better sources and organization. Thoughts? Oldsanfelipe (talk) 07:10, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
