Inconsistent death date

edit

The lead sentence says "(died 1575)", then later "...his death on 27 January 1576". I cannot access the source to verify which date is correct, so I have marked them as inconsistent in the meantime.--Gronk Oz (talk) 15:14, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fixed - it's related to MOS:JG. Thanks for the copyedits, we were both working on the page at the same time!  —SMALLJIM  15:56, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, Smalljim. If there is the potential for confusion, do you think it is worth specifying in the article which calendar system these dates relate to?--Gronk Oz (talk) 07:07, 8 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think the relevant part is the penultimate paragraph of WP:JG – in England before 1752 the new year started on 25 March. Some sources do specify pre-1752 dates between 1 Jan and 25 March in the format 27 January 1575/6. However, MOS tells us to assume that all years start on 1 January: a pragmatic approach.  —SMALLJIM  10:01, 8 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
