Croker & Macaulay

edit

Bad review by TBM being payback for Croker repeatedly besting him in debate seems implausible Carlyle was pretty dismissive about Croker's Boswell as wellRjccumbria (talk) 01:10, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I had thought there was a further clincher in the timing
  • Review was in Sept 1831 issue of Edinburgh Review
  • TBMs maiden speech in House of Commons was Sept 20 1831

Croker was next speaker and may or may not have laid a glove on TBMs argument, but either way TBM's review would have already been written.
:but it turns out that 20/09/1831 is not TBM's maiden speech; it is merely the first speech for which Hansard spells his name right : he previously appears as Mr Macauley. Not much evidence of Croker frequently exposing fallacies, though Rjccumbria (talk) 16:17, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
