Wouldn't "John of Léoncel" make more sense as a title, as a literal translation into English? The current title mixes English and Latin for a French bishop in Bosnia. Srnec (talk) 01:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

You're making a good point. I started a similar discussion at Talk:Juraj Imoćanin. The conclusion was to use a native name per WP:USENATIVE, since no English sources are talking about this person.
Since I'm relatively familiar with the topic, I can say this, two prominent authors (Mandić, Žugaj) call him "Joannes de Leoncello", three authors (Soldo, Škegro, Žugaj) call him "Ivan de Leoncello". As I said, there aren't any English-speaking or French-speaking authors dealing with this person (as far as I'm aware, though there was a guy with the same name, a commander of the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century). This can be checked via Google Scholar (which omits Mandić's book and one of Žugaj's books).
We're left here with two options, either use the Croatian-Latin hybrid "Ivan de Lioncello" or his Latin name "Joannes de Lioncello". Governor Sheng (talk) 03:12, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
